Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday! Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Now, I have not posted a Top Ten Tuesday in…let’s just say a long while, but I saw this week’s topic and wanted to join in.
This week: Ten Books That Have Been On My TBR/Shelf From Before I Started Blogging That You STILL Haven’t Read Yet. It’s not the happiest or most positive of topics, but I am hoping that seeing some of these titles here will light the fire under my butt to get them (finally!) read!
In no particular order, here are my top ten picks for books that have sadly been withering on my shelf and/or TBR since before I started blogging/reviewing on Fab Book Reviews:
Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. Why haven’t I read this yet!? I found Gone Girl to be a fascinating, complex read and had been so looking forward to try another of Flynn’s well-reviewed reads!
Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell. NO REASON for why this is still sitting on my bookshelf, unread. I have read and adored Attachments, Fangirl, and Carry On…what is holding me back from Eleanor & Park?
The Hypnotist’s Love Story by Liane Moriarty. Another author whose other work I have loved tremendously. Moriarty is one of those auto-buy authors for me- everything she publishes, I will get (well, pre-order). I haven’t heard or read as much about The Hypnotist’s Love Story, but I am imagining it will be another well-written novel!
The Amulet series by Kazu Kibuishi. I have read a fair share of children’s graphic novels and comics. Yet this hugely popular and well-regarded graphic novel series is one that I have not yet cracked into even as interested as I am to read it!
Dream Thieves (The Raven Cycle #2) by Maggie Stiefvater. Good grief. I read and rated The Raven Boys very highly when I first read it- soon after it came out, if I recall correctly. I immediately added Dream Thieves to my TBR, waited patiently for it to come out, actually bought it and then…nothing. Now, it’s been such a time that I will have to go back and re-read The Raven Boys. And that makes me nervous because what if I don’t enjoy the book one as much on re-read?
In the Age of Love & Chocolate (Birthright #3) by Gabrielle Zevin. The last book in the Birthright trilogy remains unopened on my shelf. The first two books were, I thought at the time, excellent examples of YA dystopian fiction. As with Dream Thieves, I feel as though I will now have to go back re-read from the beginning if I am serious about finishing the series.
Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson. Another YA author whose work and writing I admire, yet, for whatever reason, Wintergirls has been sitting, unread, on my shelf for far too long.
Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta. Sigh. This is a much-beloved, much-talked about, critically-acclaimed teen novel. I have seen most of my blogging/reader friends rate this novel so very highly…I wonder if part of why I haven’t gotten to Jellicoe Road is the concern of ‘will it live up to the hype’? I might as well just dive in, though!!
The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. I had such aspirations to read this novel in the lead up to it winning the Pulitzer Prize…and yet there the big book sits on my shelf after all this time…
The Distant Hours by Kate Morton. Another big head-scratcher. I have read every other book by Morton- I am a huge fan of her novels and her beautiful writing. Yet, there The Distant Hours sits on my shelf…perhaps it’s a little safety net that I should have one of her books left to savour??
